Panasonic LX200 expected in 2018

Many have wanted Panasonic update to the Panasonic LX100.      Fuji has done very well with their Fuji X100/s/t/f models so Panasonic has very tough competition.

Some things that we might see

  • 16 MP Resolution / 20MP Image area
  • Image stabilization [5 axis IS]
  • 64 MP Pixel Shift High Resolution mode
  • Advance DFD AF System
  • UHD 4K @ 60p
  • ISO 25600 and 10 fps Shooting with AF-S
  • 3.0″ 1.04m-Dot Free-Angle Touchscreen  -  Tilt-able
  • Rear Joystick
  • External Mic Option

These items might be a wishlist -  except for a DFD and the 20MP sensor from the GH5 and possibly Joystick - we rather doubt it will have a Tilt LCD and 4k 60P and Hi Res Mode.

Panasonic is hellbent on not implementing PDAF or Phase Detect points which improve tracking focus especially in video mode.  Even Sony in their little 1inch sensor RX100mV have PDAF as they have 4k recording.  Yes Panasonic's DFD - Depth From Defocus has improved when it comes to tracking focus in video but still not reliable overall and no match for Canons Dual Pixel or PDAF that  Sony, Fuji and Olympus use.

Panasonic claims that PDAF can damage picture quality - well why is Sony and Canon and Olympus and Fuji using PDAF ??

We think the odds of that are miniscule and that Panasonic simply bet on their DFD technology as a better - but now in 2018 we have a clear winner and Panasonic's DFD is no match even with a very powerful processor like int he G9.

We would like Panasonic to adopt Dual Pixel PDAF but do not expect that to happen - Panasonic lead the way of 4k and video but are now being ignored by many due to their insistence of using their DFD vs PDAF.

Our feeling is that sales of the Fuji X100 models have slowed as well as the older Panasonic LX100 -  and now RIcoh will be introducing an update to their APS-C  RIcoh GR soon.   So with Fuji X100 models and Ricoh with APS-C sensor against the LX200 with M43 we expect it will not be a big seller.

Panasonic Lumix GX9 to be announced very soon - images

User Rating: 0 / 5

Here are images of the soon to be announced Panasonic Lumix GX9.  The GX9 seems to be the GX85/GX80 body with a new sensor a 20MP sensor vs the GX85 16MP -  New sensor has no Anti Alias Filter (makes images sharper).  Also we notice an AFS/AFC/AFM lever that the GX85 did not have.  We suspect some improvements in Frames Per Second as well as some firmware improvements.

We think many will be disappointed as they where looking for the GX9 to be a successor of the GX8 - so more of a competitor to the Sony A6300/6500 models - with a new shutter, a better deeper grip and slimmer body but same hight and width and other improvements.

For those looking for a smaller body and wanted an upgrade to the GX85/80 then here it is -  but the GX9 does not seem to be a big upgrade.

Again Panasonic make their naming convention confusing - One would think this model would be called GX95/90 as it is a successor of the GX85/80  - We suspect that Panasonic is dropping the GX8 line ( larger range finder body ) - therefore the model name change and the fact that the GX8 is an older camera.

Price will be $999

Specs are really the same as the GX85/80 with minor updates like small improvement in FPS.   5 Axis (IBIS) is only up to 4 stops
